After a couple days in Edinburgh we took the train to Inverness. Located along the River Ness which flows down from famous Loch Ness, Inverness is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Scottish Highlands. We were there for only a short visit but enjoyed walking around the city, drinking with locals in the pubs, shopping for Christmas presents in the many shops, and strolling down the river banks.
Like many other European cities, Inverness had a cute old town and a castle on a hill overseeing the city.
If you are looking to do some shopping, step inside the Victorian Market. With quaint little shops in a historic building this was a fun place to do some Christmas shopping.
One of our favorite stops was Leakey's Bookshop. It packed from the floor to ceiling with books, new and old. We spent some time warming up inside by browsing the vintage books and maps.
