Raja Ampat is literally nicknamed the Last Paradise on Earth and for good reason. Raja Ampat archipelago consists of a group of large and small islands, strands of coral reefs, mountains, tropical forests, and white sandy beaches. Many divers place Raja Ampat as one of their most desired places to go diving because the marine life diversity is the highest recorded on Earth. The remoteness and untouched marine life in Raja Ampat is its main attraction and the best way to explore this is by living on a scuba dive boat.
The boat we stayed on was called the Damai and it looked exactly like a beautiful old wood pirate ship. We were treated like royalty on the boat and were provided everything we needed. The rooms were luxurious and the service was sublime. They catered to all your needs and made you feel comfortable in between the dives.

Included in our dive boat was 4 dives a day including one night dive. It was our first experience doing a night dive and it was thrilling. Not being able to see anything except what was illuminated from your flashlight was an eerie experience. It was unlike anything we had ever done. We were lucky to have a couple of ladies who work for Manta Trust on our boat. They were doing ongoing manta ray research and gave us chance to assist them. We used our underwater camera to help them get photo identification of different mantas. We saw over 20 different manta rays while in Raja Ampat and learned to love them.
With the most marine bi diversity in the world, Raja Ampat is a scuba diver's paradise. We did some of the best diving in our entire lives here. With manta ray feeding stations, fast moving currents, sharks, turtles, and magnificent reefs Raja Ampat is like a different world entirely.
Besides the wonderful diving we took a couple small boats out and explored some of the turquoise waters of the archipelago. The water color was stunning and crystal clear. We saw many exotic birds and landed on a deserted beach for a swim in the waves.
Look at the color of that ocean water! Never seen anything like it.
