We wanted to experience another Scottish fishing village and wanted one with a fun Christmas Market. Aberdeen had both of those things and we had a great time exploring the city.
To Do -
Explore the fishing village of Footdee
One of our favorite things we did in Aberdeen was visit the old fishing village of Footdee. It is a hidden gem here and sits along an old harbor. It is a eccentric area with a mix of vibrant cottages and quirky ramshackle buildings.
Visit the Christmas Market
We loved the Aberdeen Christmas Market. It was located right in the heart of town with the old historic buildings as a backdrop. We sipped on mulled wine and ate bratwurts as we shopped at all the local stalls.
This Christmas market was great for kids. There was an ice skating rink and lots of carnival rides and games. We came back to the market at night to check out all the sparkling lights and grab another glass of mulled wine.
To Eat -
The Sliver Darling
Our favorite meal in Aberdeen was Silver Darling Cafe in Footdee. Located in an old lighthouse this restaurant serves up local seafood dishes with sweeping views of the sea and harbor. The seafood bisque was delicious and a highlight of the meal.
At the Christmas Market
Since we only had a short time in Aberdeen we spent most of the time at the Christmas market. We love the food you can find at the stalls at Christmas markets. We ate local bratwursts for lunch as we sipped on mulled wine.
Where We Stayed
The Globe Inn
The cutest little inn and restaurant, we loved staying at The Globe Inn. Super quaint with a lot of personality, affordable and in a great location. Our room was located above the pub and restaurant and was clean and simple.
Staying above the pub has it’s perks. The bar was a fun place to grab a pint of beer and the free English breakfast in the morning was great before our train ride back to Edinburgh.
