Grumeti Game Reserve
Everyone in the world needs to go on an African safari at least once in their lifetime and we cannot recommend doing your safari with Singita enough! It is an incredible experience and should be on everyoneβs bucket list. After our time in Rwanda we made the journey to the Grumeti Game Reserve in Tanzania. This game reserve was established in 1993 and is located on the northwestern border of the famous Serengeti National Park! This massive 150 square mile helps protect the annual Great Migration of wildebeests in May-July which passes through the reserve.
Game Drives
The number of visitors is limited to protect the wildlife in the savanna and river lands. The area is so remote and with the limitation on tourism you will barely ever see another safari vehicle on your game drives. Wildlife viewing is great year around! We saw an incredible amount of animals including leopards, lions, hyenas, elephants, zebras, hippopotamus, and giraffes to name a few.
We went on multiple game drives a day from the early morning sometimes into the night. The safari was so comfortable with snacks, drinks and blankets available. We had two different guides during our time with Singita, one from each camp we stayed at and they were both extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly where to go to find the animals. They were so educated about all the different animals and took great care of us.
Singita Explore Camp
One of the best decisions we made was staying at Singitaβs Explore Camp. This luxury tented camp takes glamping to the next level. This camp is in the middle of the wilderness of the Serengeti and is taken apart and moved depending on the wildlife and time of year. We had the entire place to ourselves with our 3 tented rooms and the center tent where we ate our meals cooked over a campfire and relaxed in between game drives.
There was even an amazing little plunge pool set up at camp where you could take a dip and look out for wildlife.
Below is a photo of our tent. The inside made you feel like you were in a real like Indian Jones movie. At night you could hear animals right outside your door and with only canvas between you it was thrilling to be that close to the wildlife. The showers were manually filled with boiling water from the staff whenever you wanted. Every tiny detail was immaculate and it was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives.
Faru Faru Lodge
After 2 nights in the Explore Tented Camp we drove across the savanna and checked into Faru Faru Lodge. Singita made the transition seamless and while we were on our game drive our luggage was transferred to Faru Faru and when we arrived after our amazing game drive it was already in our rooms along with an icy bottle of rose.
Our first impressions of Faru Faru Lodge were βWOW.β The infinity pool overlooking the grasslands was unbelievable and made you pinch yourself that this place really exists. From the pool were always accompanied by a troop of mischievous monkeys trying to steal our pina coladas.
The decor throughout the lodge and rooms was open, airy, and focuses on local crafts and nature. Every detail was exquisite. A truly remarkable place in the middle of the Serengeti.
Everything is included when you stay at any of the Singita properties. You are served breakfast, lunch, & dinner everyday that focuses on local and sustainable ingredients. All drinks and snacks could want are included throughout your stay and the bartenders are great at creating super tasty cocktails like fresh passion fruit margaritas. Anything you want is only a ask away.
On our last night the increible staff at Singita set up a cocktail hour for us on a little hill overlooking the beautiful landscape of the Serengeti and we got to watch the sun set with a special cocktail in hand. Then on the way back to our lodge in the dark we spotted a mother Leopard with her cubs. It was an unforgettable end to an unforgettable safari with Singita.
